What is a Scholarship Grant?

A Scholarship Grant is a scholarship that is funded by a donor and awarded in the same calendar year in which the funds are received.  Often, these grants are reinstated annually. Woodbury Scholarship Fund Dollars for Scholars® is organized to manage grants of various types including the selection of qualified students.

How does it work?

Prospective donors that decide to create a Grant work with our Grant Committee to commit funding and establish the name and general criteria for student selection. Then, the Grant is posted on our website where students meeting the criteria can apply to receive the Grant.  Our Selection Committee reviews all applicants and makes an award adhering to the Grant's criteria.

Who can start a Grant?

Any individual, organization or business can establish a grant.  These grants are usually named to identify the donor and have specific criteria to designate a recipient's qualifications.

How is a Grant established?

Prospective donors are asked to complete an application form (
click hereproviding information about the intentions of the Grant. Our Selection Committee ultimately uses this information to make student selections and to communicate with the donor. Since student applications open in January each year, it is important the grants be identified and in place by January 1st.

How will students know to apply for my Grant?

All students must apply online. Students can review all available grants and apply to those for which they are qualified.

Is there an ongoing commitment to funding a Grant?

No. Donors can make a one-time grant or plan to fund a grant annually with the amount of funding decided each year. Our grant process provides a flexible framework for funding and budgeting.

What is the minimum amount required to establish a Grant?

Grants usually require a minimum of $500 to make meaningful awards.

How are Grant payments made?
