The Woodbury Scholarship Fund was established in 1975 and incorporated as a non-profit organization on June 30, 1976.  Original members include long-time Woodbury residents Henry De Vries, Jane Cushman, George Roberts, and Neil Yarhouse.

In 1992, the organization voted to affiliate with the Dollars for Scholars®, a program of what is now Scholarship America®, and have remained an active chapter.  In 2012, Scholarship America reorganized to strengthen their brand recognition and required chapters to change their name to include the Dollars for Scholars program name.  We are now known as Woodbury Scholarship Fund Dollars for Scholars®.

While still managed entirely at the local level, membership in this national organization gives our chapter access to a wide range of scholarship information, resources and expertise, an on-line student application process, matching grants and unique concessions on scholarship grants, and tax exempt status.

As an all-volunteer organization, we are able to return almost all raised funds toward scholarship awards and endowment development.

What We Do

Woodbury Scholarship Fund Dollars for Scholars provides financial assistance through annually raised funds and from endowments and grants.  Awards are based on a combination of scholarship, motivation (school activities and community service) and financial need.

Our chapter is organized to manage endowments, annual grants and present scholarships to deserving post secondary education students.  Separate, "named" endowments and grants are managed on behalf of businesses, other community organizations or individuals. They can be established as memorials or as recognition for given support.  Endowments and grants typically have unique eligibility requirements at the discretion of the sponsor.  These may include criteria such as vocational pursuits, residency requirements, or academic standing. Donations may be made directly to any of our named endowments.

Our chapter has also established its own endowment in order to ensure future and ongoing financial support for students and thereby support our mission.

Through the generosity of many community organizations and individuals, our scholarships have provided needed financial assistance and have been a source of valuable recognition and encouragement for academic achievement and community service.
